Jeans for Genes – Denim Week at Concordia!
Warwick Street Kindergarten is once again proudly supporting Jeans for Genes through our Annual Denim Week, held from August 4th to 8th. Led by our enthusiastic Kindy children, this event is close to our hearts, and we’d love to invite the broader Concordia community to get involved. In 2024, with your amazing support, we raised an incredible $3,360. This year, we’re dreaming big with a goal of $4,500!
Each campus will be celebrating with their own Jeans for Genes Day:
Warwick Street Kindergarten – All week: August 4th to 8th
Hume Street Campus & Warwick Street Campus – Monday 4th August
Stephen Street Campus – Thursday 7th August
Every dollar raised goes directly to the Children’s Medical Research Institute, funding vital research to help find cures and treatments for kids living with genetic diseases.
If you’re able, please consider making a tax-deductible donation via our fundraising page:

I've Got Chills - Soloist Concert
The incredible talents of our music students truly warmed our hearts at the I’ve Got Chills solo concert held on Thursday, June 12.
Students from all three campuses came together to deliver a memorable concert, showcasing both their musical growth and their courage. Seasoned performers demonstrated their continued development in skill and confidence, while debut performers bravely stepped out of their comfort zones to share their musical journeys with a large audience.
This concert marked the second in our Solo Concert Series for the year, and we couldn’t be prouder of every performer who took the stage.
Be sure to mark your calendars for the next concert in the series—Spring Has Sprung, coming up in Term 3 on September 4. We can’t wait to see (and hear!) what’s next.

Queensland Regional Readers Cup Competition
On Tuesday 10 June, five of our Year 6 students represented our school at the annual Queensland Regional Readers Cup Competition, hosted by Highlands Christian College. This event provided a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their love of reading and literature. With thirty-two teams from across the Darling Downs participating, the competition was both exciting and challenging. We are proud to share that our Junior College team placed twelfth—an impressive achievement and a highlight of the day.
A special moment for the students was meeting acclaimed author Katrina Nannestad, who was in attendance. They had the chance to chat with her and have their favourite books personally signed.
Congratulations to Imke, Koto, Ruby, Ava and Emma for their early morning starts and hard work in preparation for the day. We would also like to thank our parents who came and supported our students on the day. Your enthusiasm and support for our students was much appreciated.

2025 Darling Downs Readers Cup
This week, four of our Year 7 boys represented our school at the 2025 Darling Downs Readers Cup, held at Highlands Christian College. With determination and team spirit, they competed against schools from across the region in a celebration of reading.
Under the watchful eye of quizmaster and best-selling author Katrina Nannestad, the students tackled five challenging rounds of questions, diving deep into the details of the books they had studied. From plot twists to character traits, the boys showed great focus and teamwork as they worked together to recall and discuss the novels they had read in preparation.
The Readers Cup is more than just a competition—it’s a powerful way to promote a love of reading, critical thinking, and collaboration among young people. By taking part, students not only strengthen their reading and comprehension skills but also gain confidence in their ability to communicate ideas and engage thoughtfully with texts.
We are incredibly proud of the boys for their effort, perseverance, and positive attitude throughout the evening. Their willingness to step up and represent our school is a credit to them, and we hope the experience has sparked an even deeper appreciation for reading.

Concordia student wins prestigious International Language Scholarship
In a Toowoomba first, Year 11 student Zoe Pietsch has been awarded the renowned Goethe-Institut language scholarship.
The achievement highlights the underlying ties between Concordia Lutheran College and German culture, with her two-week immersive language program in Obertauern, Austria, also coinciding with the preparations of Concordia's 2025 Oktoberfest celebrations.
This opportunity will accelerate her already strong German language skills and cultural understanding.
“I was looking for ways to extend my German language abilities, especially conversationally,” Zoe said. “This scholarship gives me a unique chance to learn directly from the German people.”
In the application Zoe needed to supply a written statement and a short video expressing her passion for German and how this opportunity would help achieve her goals.
“My connection to my family’s Prussian heritage definitely played a part in my motivation,” she said.
"I’ll be staying in a youth hostel 3000 meters above sea level. It’s going to be an adventure, travelling overseas by myself for the first time, and meeting other young people from around the globe all communicating solely in German."
Zoe’s teacher at Concordia has been instrumental in building her interest in travel and language, while a recent family holiday to Germany also built further on her love for the country.
"My German teacher, Katherina Riehl, has been so supportive. She’s always encouraged me to dive deeper into both the language and the culture," she said.
"When my family visited Germany, I could understand what the locals were saying more than I expected. The conversational language is wonderful, but you are nervous because we are first taught what is called high German, or a more academic version of the language.
“Germany has such a rich history and exploring its museums has brought so much of my studies to life.”
Zoe also loves to be involved in Concordia's Oktoberfest celebration.
“I’m looking forward to performing again with the Concordia Big Band,” she said.
“There are so many incredible German composers.”
Zoe’s German journey is just beginning for the promising young linguist, and the Concordia community looks forward to hearing all about the experience when she heads back to class in Term 3.
